The Focus is YOU
Author: Karen Wright-Chisolm
My favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11. It states: “For I Know The Plans I Have For YOU, Declares the Lord, Plans To Prosper YOU and Not To Harm YOU, Plans to Give YOU Hope and a Future”. This scripture was the motivation behind the development of A Centralized Moment – The Focus is YOU; it continues to nurture and sustain my business. A Centralized Moment – The Focus Is YOU was revealed as a result of my experiences as a young black female growing up in the city of Charleston, where I experienced everything from sexual assault to neighborhoods where domestic violence was the norm for so many of the families. It was so common that we thought it was okay for husbands to beat their wives and many of us grew up, married and experienced domestic violence in our relationships.
I created this organization to break this generational curse and to educate and bring awareness to the many young black females still experiencing this in their communities. They need to know that it is not just okay for a man to beat on you, disrespect you and possibly kill you. This organization serves as an outlet to support and assist all women regardless of race, get out of abusive relationships. We help them if they need to flee from their abusers and teach them how they can support themselves and their children.
Since the onset of COVID-19, homelessness has increased tremendously among female Veterans and their families. Many women Veterans face challenges when returning to civilian life, including raising children or dealing with the aftereffects of military sexual trauma. Without intervention, these and other issues can place women Veterans at greater risk for homelessness. A Centralized Moment partners with Boots-2-Heels, SC Chapter and strives to assist and support female Veterans transitioning from the military to the workplace.
A Centralized Moment – The Focus Is You is a 501C3 non-profit organization with the mission to be a safe-haven to women and families dealing with issues of domestic violence, homelessness, unemployment, loss of hours, anxiety, depression, mental illness, etc. We provide counseling, mentorship, and resources to women and families fleeing or suffering from the effect of these issues and help them return to a more stable way of living. We also assist with placing women and children in safe-haven homes and hotels and connecting them with resources and agencies that help them transition into stable and permanent housing. Our objective is to be a one-stop-shop for resources.
