Honoring the Mind, Honoring the Mission

May is a powerful month for women who have worn the uniform. It’s both Mental Health Awareness Month and Military Appreciation Month — and for us at Camouflaged Sisters, that overlap is no coincidence. It’s a divine reminder that our service and our wellness are deeply connected.

Too often, as military women, we’ve been praised for our strength while silently suffering. We’ve pushed through pain, hidden our struggles, and continued to serve — our country, our families, our communities — without always tending to our own needs. This month, we are flipping the narrative…

Prioritizing Mental Health in Our Sisterhood

May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shine light on an issue that too often stays in the shadows—especially in military circles. As women who have served, we’re no strangers to pressure, perseverance, or pain. We’ve learned how to push through, carry on, and stay mission-ready—even when it hurts.

But here’s the truth: mental health is mission-critical.

Too many of us carry invisible wounds from our time in service—stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, and even high-functioning exhaustion. We’ve been conditioned to be the strong one, the dependable one, the one who doesn’t need help. But real strength? That comes from being honest—with ourselves and with each other.

This year’s theme, “Turn Awareness into Action,” reminds us that acknowledging the issue is only the beginning. What matters most is what we do next. Whether it’s scheduling that therapy session, calling a friend, joining a support group, or simply journaling our truth—every small step matters.

At Camouflaged Sisters, we believe healing happens in community. When one of us shares our story, we give another sister permission to speak up. When we support one another without judgment, we remind each other that we are not alone. Mental health is not a luxury; it’s a lifeline.

So this month, we encourage you to:

Check in with yourself.

Check in on a sister.

Take one step toward your healing.

You don’t have to do it all. You just have to do the next right thing.

Because when we heal together, we rise together.

A Salute to Our Service

Every May, we pause to recognize Military Appreciation Month, a time to reflect on the sacrifices, stories, and strength of our Service Members. And here at Camouflaged Sisters, we put a special spotlight on the brave, bold, and brilliant women who served.

Whether you wore boots in combat zones, led from the front in garrison, or held the line for your families while balancing military life—your service matters. You’ve shattered stereotypes, broken barriers, and made space for the next generation of Women Warriors.

But Military Appreciation Month isn’t just about ribbons and recognition. It’s about honoring the whole journey—the pride, the pain, the power, and the purpose that comes with wearing the uniform. It’s about remembering our Sisters who are no longer physically here with us, celebrating those who made it through a military career, and lifting up those who are still serving.

This year, we invite you to reflect on your service—not just what you did, but who you became. How did the military shape your voice, your leadership, your resilience? How has your experience helped you impact the world around you?

We also encourage you to reach out to another sister-in-arms—a simple message of appreciation can go a long way. Let her know she’s seen. She’s valued. She’s not forgotten.

To every woman who’s ever served:

 We see you.

 We salute you.

 We stand with you.

Happy Military Appreciation Month, Sister! Your legacy is powerful, and your story is far from over.
